Nationally Renowned Entrepreneur to Keynote at National Founder’s Day Celebration

(Philadelphia, PA), November 2008 – The Grand Chapter announced today the addition of Michael J. Roberts, Sr. to the upcoming National Founder’s Day Celebration festivities.  Roberts will serve as Keynote Speaker for the Closed Banquet on January 10, 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Roberts is the President and CEO of the Roberts Companies in St. Louis, Missouri, a family owned and operated conglomerate of diversified businesses world wide which is fast approaching the billion dollar plateau.

The diverse portfolio includes a management consultant firm, aviation company (two jets), broadcasting company (owning television stations in 11 cities throughout its existence), and a host of restaurants, malls, grocery stores and real estate companies.  One of Roberts’ prize companies is his hotel operations, which now totals twelve (12) properties, second as an African-American only to Kappa Brother Robert L. Johnson.  Perhaps his most prized possession, however, is his “island;” the Roberts Isle and Resort, the largest African-American owned development in the Bahamas.

A firm believer in family, the Roberts Companies are family owned institutions; a family of Achievers to be exact! Mike’s father, Victor; Brother Steven; son Michael, Jr; and nephew, Steven, Jr., are all members of our Noble Bond.  Said Roberts, “I’m excited about the opportunity to join my Brothers to celebrate our Founder’s Day in Charlotte.  Kappa is very important to me and has been an integral part of my commitment to Achieve in all I do since my undergraduate days.”

The Roberts have been strong supporters of Kappa over the years, including identifying the funding source for the National Prostate Cancer Awareness program, sponsorship for the 77th Grand Chapter Meeting in St. Louis, and housing the Undergraduate Leadership Institute in their Atlanta hotel.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Returns to Charlotte For National Founder’s Day

(Philadelphia, PA), November 2008 – Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. released a detailed schedule of events for the 4th Annual National Founder’s Day Celebration commencing January 8-11, 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was announced that Dr. Ullysses McBride, 26th Grand Polemarch, will receive a tribute as the 2009 National Founder’s Day Special Honoree.

The celebration of Founder’s Day as a significant national affair began in 2006, when the Southwestern Province and the Brothers of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Metropolitan area hosted the initial National Founder’s Day ceremonies.  Since then, National Founder’s Day has been hosted in Orlando (2007) and most recently Los Angeles (2008).

“Each year this event gets raised to another level,” Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray stated. “It has always been my hope that we as a fraternity could come together as close to our true founding date and celebrate our beginning and rededicate ourselves to our future.  This is just one more step as we move toward celebrating National Founder’s Day on January 5th, 2011.”

The Brothers of the Middle Eastern Province, Charlotte Alumni, Alpha Epsilon, Gamma Delta, Zeta Delta and Zeta Sigma have been working diligently to prepare for this event and have released a very ambitious schedule, which includes:

• Cufflinks & Cocktails Networking Event - Jan. 8th
• Return to Charlotte Reception - Jan. 9th
• Closed Founder’s Day Banquet & Open Celebration Gala - Jan. 10th
• Sunday of Hope Program – Jan. 11th

As has been done at each previous National Founder’s Day, the fraternity will give a special honor to a Brother who is a quintessential example of the high ideals and continued dedication Founders’ Day is designed to illuminate.  This year Grand Polemarch Ullysses McBride (26th) joins our 17th and 25th, Grand Polemarchs Millspaugh and Bacon, who were honored in 2006 and 2008, respectively, on this most distinguished list.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. to Pay Tribute to Kappa Veterans During Grand Chapter Meeting

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. to Pay Tribute to Kappa Veterans During Grand Chapter Meeting in Washington, DC.

(Philadelphia, PA) – November 11th, 2008 – Dwayne M. Murray, the 31st Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. released details of the planning for the 79th Grand Chapter Meeting by announcing on Veteran’s Day that the fraternity will give special recognition and honor to all the Brothers who wore the uniform of the United States Military during the national meeting.

“I come from a military family.  My father was a veteran of the United States Army.  My wife’s father was a career military man.  I know first hand the sacrifices our military men and women make in protecting the freedom we cherish,” Grand Polemarch Murray said in discussing the tribute.

According to Brother David Hardick, co-chairman of the Grand Chapter Local Planning Committee, the tribute will focus primarily on our Veteran Brothers who have reached “That Golden Shore” and are interned at Arlington National Cemetery.  “We are working diligently to ensure that this occasion can actually be marked at Arlington National Cemetery,” Brother Hardrick said, “We think this will be a highlight of the Grand Chapter meeting and be an emotional and lasting memory for those Kappa Veterans who attend.”

Brother Murray also noted the significance of releasing the news during a time of Veteran tribute to all U.S. Veterans.  “I recently visited Fort Bragg Military Base in North Carolina, and met with several Kappa men in the Special Forces.  Hearing their stories and recognizing their dedication to this nation I believe that love of country is universal --political party affiliations do not matter; being from a red state or a blue state does not matter— We should all pause to recognize and show our gratitude to America’s greatest heroes.”

To ensure that every Brother receives proper recognition, the Grand Chapter Planning Committee is asking every chapter to submit the names of Brothers buried at Arlington to David Hardrick .  Please provide the following:
