Artist Bio

Ann E. Hale

My strong interest in drawing and painting accompanied my career as a human relations trainer and director of improvised enactments. Since the early 1980’s I have given more time to the study of art history, developing studio arts, exhibiting and teaching. My artwork is mostly representational with breaks to explore abstract images. I like to choose the medium to fit my chosen treatment of the subject. I work mostly in oil and graphite with occasional ventures into mixed watermedia and soft pastel.  The 2009 Calendar I have assembled of this year’s images is available for purchase by calling (540) 763-3061.  The price is $15 plus postage.

I am most appreciative to the guidance I have received from professional artists, Ernest Johnson, Vera Dickerson, Peyton Klein, Frank Hobbs, Mary Echols, Ann Glover and Alex Powers.

I am a charter member and officer of The Market Gallery.

I have taught drawing at the Studio School in Roanoke, The Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, VA and the Academy of Arts in Lynchburg, as well as working with private students at the Hodges Studio in Salem, VA.  During March, 2008 I was one of the featured artists in the show “Virginia Rivers and Streams” held at the NELSON GALLERY, 27 West Washington Street, in Lexington, Virginia.

I have exhibited regionally as well as internationally, with paintings in private and corporate collections. I live in Floyd County, Virginia.  Many of the landscapes I paint reflect the scenic views, pasture, creeks and country roads near where I live.

In September I began making miniature abstract pins which may be worn, or framed.  Some of these pins I have framed. The back of the frame detaches so that the pin may be removed and worn. These small 4” x 5” small frames are avaiable in gold or silver.

Painting on display this website:  “Eliza’s kitchen II” 13” x 13” Oil on board (c) 2007 has been sold.
