“The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.”
Artist’s Statement
I enjoy sharing experiences of beauty.
Sometimes an image takes a familiar form, other times it emerges in forms outside the bounds of traditional materials or aesthetics. Even when it barely evokes the fragrance of something beautiful, I savor the scent. I feel my role as an art-maker is to allow the innate harmony of life to be more apparent, perhaps in new ways or unexpected places.
In my paintings I attempt to sense and reveal a presence.
While prompted by the visual, I like when art work probes beyond it. I think of naturalistic imagery, types of perspective, and photography as tools available to suggest illusions on a flat surface. I exploit such tools liberally, and often intermix these with others. I love lush and intriguing textures and often collage physical elements with sensual colors and vibrant surfaces. All my work evolves through the dialogue with the materials. I try to achieve a harmony and vitality within each piece.
I make objects with joy and gratitude.
I feel all Life is interwoven and in process, and attempt to convey this in my art. Making things pushes me to stay aware and occasionally I find new discoveries worth sharing. Through this sharing I hope to encourage a communion of understanding with others.
