Nan Mahone
“Throughout my life, I’ve enjoyed interpreting nature and color in paint whether on paper, fabric or canvas. Painting in oils from nature is a fabulous and addicting experience. My work is a response to feelings and moods I find in the landscape through constantly changing light. It is a rich experience enhanced by the company of good friends and thoughtful artists.”
When Nan Mahone Wellborn was growing up, painting her mother’s expertly designed flower arrangements was a sure means to keep her busy. These early artistic efforts fostered in her an interest in the observational painting of nature and colourful landscapes as they are affected by light.
Nan’s oil paintings may be found at The Market Gallery. Recent juried exhibitions include Olin Gallery - Roanoke College, Salem, VA, WVTF Public Radio Station, Roanoke, VA, and Beverley Street Studio School, Staunton, VA, New River Valley Land Trust Benefit, Dublin, VA. And for the past two years, she had been the commissioned artist for the Western Virginia Land Trust Award. Her work is included in private collections up and down the East Coast.
