Ross Arkell
There is a common thread that runs through my paintings. It is the attempt to achieve a freshness, a spontaneity with the paint. The paint should be thick, rich --- almost edible. The relationship of brush to brush --- of bristle to bristle --- to push and build the paint to create mass— almost sculptural.
I paint to draw a bit of drama from the mundane and to record the character of our landscapes and the houses that we have placed upon it. My goal is to use the paint with strength, joy and definition—to keep the brush alive. The pleasure is the pleasure of doing it. Ross Arkell
